Reminder: FDs must apply for inclusion on the National Performers List before September

9 August 2017

The BDA is reminding all new graduates who have recently been allocated to a dental foundation training post in England or Wales starting on 1 September this year, that they must apply before that date to be included on the national dental performers list.

Applications to the list can take up to three months to process, so if you haven't already started your application, please do so now. Primary Care Support England (PCSE) Team or NHS Wales/Primary Care Support (NWSSP) and the Area Teams/Health Boards must have processed the paperwork and confirmed the inclusion by the end of November.

You can start work in September without confirmation you have been included on the list, but your application must have been received before 1 September and accepted and processed by the end of November, in order for you to continue working legally.

In recent years, there have been problems with FDs being asked to stop working on 1 December until their application has been processed. In order to avoid this situation, FDs should make their application as soon as possible.

BDA guidance on applying

As the system of administration for applying is quite complex, we have produced some useful guidance for BDA member foundation dentists, who will be working in England and Wales, on how to apply, and the documentation you need to be aware of obtaining now.

We are in the process of providing guidance for those who are going to be doing training posts in Northern Ireland and Scotland, as the administration process does vary quite considerable between each country.

How do I apply?

To apply for inclusion on the National Performers List:

  • If you are going to be working in England, apply via PCSE

  • If you are going to be working in Northern Ireland, apply via the HSC/Business Services Organisation

  • If you are going to be working in Scotland, apply via NHS Scotland

  • If you are going to be working Wales, apply via NWSSP

Experiencing problems with your application?

If you have any issues with the administrative process, please let us know.
