Dental Foundation Training

Dental graduates undergo postgraduate training to practice in NHS general dental settings. In England, Wales and Northern Ireland this is called Dental Foundation Training (DFT). Find out more about the application process, Situational Judgement Tests (SJTs), and types of DFT placements.

DFT provides you with a broad overview of career choices and a good understanding of the NHS system. DFT will introduce you to primary care dentistry in a supported environment. You will have at least one Educational Supervisor (ES) in the same practice to provide supervision, help, and regular tutorials.
