Oral and maxillofacial surgery

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) is a medical specialty requiring both medical and dental degrees.

Introduction to OMFS

As an OMFS surgeon, you will undertake a wide variety of more complex treatments involving the head, neck and oral cavity. You will often work closely with orthodontic and oral medicine colleagues. A DCT post in an OMFS department will provide you with valuable experience in both OMFS and oral surgery.

Although OMFS is not one of the 13 GDC dental specialty training areas, the specialties of oral surgery and OMFS are closely intertwined. Typically, OMFS departments will have a mixture of both oral surgeons and OMFS surgeons on staff.
