Recruiting staff

This advice describes best practice in advertising for new staff, shortlisting and interviewing applicants, and pre-recruitment checks.

Overview

A strong dental team is a valuable resource for any dental practice. Finding a new employee can be an arduous process but with a structured recruitment process, the likelihood of finding the right person for the job can increase significantly. When recruiting staff, be clear about the role they are to undertake, the skills and qualities they will need and ensure that the selection process is objective.

Recruitment mistakes can be costly and disruptive: appointing an unsuitable person can have a negative effect on others and change attitudes; inappropriate recruitment processes can lead to allegations of discrimination.
