Clinical standards

Beyond the GDC and regulatory bodies, several organisations develop guidance and standards that influence dental practice.

National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE)

NICE provides clinical guidelines and quality standards, many of which apply to dentistry. These include oral health guidance and broader healthcare topics, such as cancer and infective endocarditis, that may impact dental care.

The NICE website also hosts the British National Formulary (BNF) and the Dental Practitioners Formulary (DPF), which list medicines approved for use in the UK.
