This advice summarises the guidance published by the Resuscitation Council (UK) and, alongside practical training, will help you meet your professional obligations and responsibilities.

Medical emergencies in a dental practice can happen at any time and you must be confident that you and members of your team know what to do, including recognising the need to summon help.

You should be aware of the guidance published by the Resuscitation Council (UK): Quality standards for cardiopulmonary resuscitation practice and training which includes the equipment list for primary dental care.

In Scotland, guidance is available from the National Dental Advisory Committee (NDAC) and the Scottish Dental Clinical Effectiveness Programme (SDCEP).
