Craft Committees

Some advisory committees advice the Principal Executive Committee (PEC) on issues affecting particular parts of the profession, but they also seek to represent their interests (for example the General Dental Practice Committee which is concerned with the interests of general dental practitioners) and which are sometimes referred to as ‘craft committees’.

The PEC may delegate detailed consideration of policy issues to craft committees, and may also leave detailed negotiations with Government ministers or officials to the committee officers. It is the PEC though that authorises policy decisions, or the outcome of negotiations where that is required.
Each country of the UK often has their own version of a particular committee to focus on the issues and political environment affecting them.
