Features of the course
- Delegates will carry out pre-course foundation reading and webinar viewing
- Each delegate will be provided with a computer for the hands-on component of the live in-person practical training days
- After the first in-person day delegates will then be required to prepare reports in their own time and submit their completed assignments by the given deadline ready for assessment by the faculty ahead of day 2
- Delegates will discuss a case with the group on the second in-person day
- Limited number of delegates to ensure maximum interaction with the experienced team of clinical academics
- Multi-disciplinary faculty including experienced radiologists, endodontists and oral surgeons.

Course format
Pre-course reading: Delegates will receive pre-course reading (3 hours)
Pre-course webinar: Introductory on-demand webinar covering a modern look at radiation dose to be viewed prior to attending day one (1 hour)
Day 1:
Saturday 7 October 2023: One-day in-person seminar and hands-on reporting (BDA HQ, London) (7 hours)
Self-directed reporting exercises: Case assignments provided by the faculty to complete in your own time (8 hours - eight exercises on USB key with enclosed software, each takes one hour).
Note: access to a Windows-based laptop/PC will be required to complete the exercises, and completed assignments will need to be submitted by 9am on Monday 30 October 2023.
Day 2:
Saturday 11 November 2023: In-person case discussion of CBCT reports by the delegates and reflection. Feedback from the faculty on the reporting exercises prepared by the delegates. (BDA HQ, London) (5 hours).
Who should attend?
The masterclass is recommended for all personnel who may be entitled to act as IRMER practitioners and operators undertaking the justification and clinical evaluation (radiological reporting) of CBCT images that are confined to the dento-alveolar region.

Simon Harvey, Consultant in Dental and Maxillofacial Radiology, The Eastman Dental Hospital, London and Queen Victoria Hospital, Sussex
Simon works at The Eastman Dental Hospital, London and Queen Victoria Hospital, Sussex. His clinical practice and research interests are dentoalveolar CBCT and salivary gland interventional radiology.
He has an interest in medicolegal disputes and he is published in several peer review journals and books. He is a passionate educator to undergraduates at KCL and post-graduate audiences around the world in person and online.

Professor Shanon Patel, Professor of Endodontology, Kings College London, Consultant Endodontist, Guy's Hospital and Specialist Practice, London
Shanon divides his time between working in a specialist practice in central London and teaching future Specialist Endodontists in the Postgraduate Unit at King's College London Dental Institute.
His PhD thesis assessed the use of CBCT in the management of Endodontic problems. Shanon is actively involved in research and has co-supervised over 50 Masters and PhD students. Primary research interests reflect some of the interesting challenges he faces in everyday clinical practice and include survival of teeth, managing dental trauma, microbiology and CBCT in endodontics.
Shanon has been the lead author of National (FGDP, Royal College of Surgeons) and European (ESE) guidelines on dental imaging in endodontics.
He has published over 100 papers in peer reviewed scientific journals and co-edited four endodontic and radiology textbooks which have been translated into five different languages.

AJ Ray-Chaudhuri, Consultant in Restorative Dentistry, Specialist in Endodontics, Periodontics and Prosthodontics
AJ shares his time between his NHS Consultant role, Specialist referral practice and working as an independent Expert Witness. He is a member of the Royal Colleges of Surgeons' of Edinburgh and a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeon's of England. AJ is an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and has been placing and restoring implants for 10 years.

Louise Ormondroyd, Consultant in Oral Surgery, Guy's Hospital, London
Louise's interests include multi-disciplinary team approach to managing patients with hypodontia and patients undergoing oncology treatment and subsequent complications (such as MRONJ and ORN). Louise has a diploma in conscious sedation and is an examiner for the LDS exam at the Royal College of Surgeons.

Rupert Austin, Senior Clinical Lecturer in Prosthodontics, King's College London, Consultant in Prosthodontics at Guy's and St. Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust and Specialist Prosthodontics on referral, in digitally advanced Specialist Referral Centres, East Sussex
Rupert graduated from the University of Manchester in 2006 and gained a PhD in Enamel Erosion in 2011. He has completed Specialty Registrar Training in Prosthodontics, along with a Masters in Clinical Dentistry and Membership in Prosthodontics at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2015.
Rupert is also Service Lead in Digital Dentistry and Capital Development.

CPD
24 hours enhanced CPD
The masterclass offers 24 hours of verifiable CPD and satisfies both Level 1 (Core) Training in Dental CBCT* and Level 2 (Further) Training in Dental CBCT Justification and Image Interpretation as outlined by the latest FGDP Guidance for Dental Practitioners on the Safe Use of X-ray Equipment (2020). It also satisfies level two (reporting) of the European Academy of Dentomaxillofacial Radiology (EADMFR) CBCT training guidelines assuring that both UK and European standards are met.
*When complemented by 5 hours of CPD in radiography and radiation protection (as recommended by the GDC for all dentists and dental care professionals as part of the enhanced CPD scheme).

Due to the requirement for specific materials and equipment to be arranged for individuals in advance of the masterclass, please be aware that our usual event cancellation terms and conditions (highlighted below) will be strictly adhered to*.
Cancellations received 29 days or more prior to an event will be entitled to a 100% credit voucher or refund. Cancellations received between 15 days and 28 days (inclusive) prior to the event will receive a 100% credit voucher to attend a future BDA event or a 75% refund. For cancellations received between 1 day and 14 days (inclusive) prior to the event, no credit voucher or refund will be given. Failure to attend the event on the day will constitute late cancellation and no credit voucher or refund will be given.
Substitutions are welcome at any time if they qualify for the same delegate rate or cheaper. Substitutions for attendees who qualify for a higher delegate rate should pay the difference.
