Tooth whitening is a popular treatment and more people than ever are wanting to whiten their teeth. Whilst most people want to achieve whiter teeth with a natural whiter enhanced shade, some want Toilet Bowl Shade of White and the Love Island effect. The myths of strawberries, bicarbonate, charcoal toothpaste and coconut oil for whitening teeth will be evaluated and the research presented.  The new research behind Over the Counter whitening products will be discussed. Many dentists would like to do more whitening treatment but have not trained on the protocols and strategies for successful whitening.

This course covers the scientific research behind dental bleaching treatments and resin infiltration. Discussing the classification of bleaching techniques into three categories is vital, in order to assist with predicable treatment planning for the various tooth whitening programmes required to obtain successful outcomes. The event will also elaborate on all tooth bleaching techniques, highlighting non vital bleaching protocols. White spot eradication and how to combine these treatments with resin infiltration and further minimal invasive aesthetic treatment will be discussed.

Aim

This one-day event will provide delegates with an in‐depth knowledge of tooth whitening and dental bleaching to achieve successful results for their patients and practice. Participants will also learn how to undertake effective resin infiltration for treatment of white spots and white marks during the hands on part of the day.

Learning objectives

  • Review the scientific basis of bleaching, having acquired knowledge and understanding of the process
  • Review the key points of the EU directive concerning tooth whitening products
  • Identify the different dental bleaching techniques
  • Understand the causes of sensitivity and patient management during treatment
  • Discuss strategies to manage problems associated with tooth whitening and dental bleaching
  • Undertake effective whitening treatments for their patients
  • Learn how to assess the indications and the contraindications for resin infiltration techniques
  • Learn how to undertake resin infiltration for simple intermediate and advanced resin infiltration treatment

Learning content

The aim of this event will be met through a mixture of lecture-based sessions with opportunity to ask questions to the speaker. And a hands on demonstration by the speaker with the opportunity for participants to follow the same processes with the speaker on hand to answer questions.

Course content

The six hours will be split between lecture based learning for 4 hours 30 minutes and hands on learning for 1 hour 30 minutes.
