Aims
This seminar provides an opportunity to explore the theory and clinical practice of occlusion in the 21st century. Through case examples and video demonstrations, speakers Phil Taylor and Peter Briggs will discuss a wide range of procedures available to the busy, modern dental practitioner.

Peter Briggs
Consultant in Restorative Dentistry, QMUL, London and Specialist Practitioner
Peter was appointed as a Consultant in 1995 and also started a specialist referral practice in the same year. He qualified at King's College Hospital in 1983 and worked in full time NHS dental practice before returning to secondary care to do a Cons MSc at the Eastman in 1997-8. This was followed by various registrar jobs at Eastman, King's, Royal London and St. George's. He won a Winston Churchill Fellowship in 1994. As a Clinical Director for 15 years he spent much energy developing secondary care clinical services in South West London (SWL) and more recently trained Dentists with Enhanced Skills and introduced a Managed Clinical Network for SWL. He is past DCT TPD for SL and STC Chair / TPD for Restorative Dentistry (Pan London). He has managed to publish over 50 publications and is immediate past President of the British Society of Prosthodontics. He was appointed Postgraduate Dental Dean for London and Kent, Sussex and Surrey in November 2018.

Phil Taylor Professor in Prosthodontics, QMUL, Consultant in Restorative Dentistry and Clinical Director for Dentistry at Barts Health NHS Trust, London
Phil was appointed a consultant in 2003. He qualified in 1981 from Newcastle upon Tyne and spent the first 12 years in NHS General Practice in Northumberland, by 1992 he had gained the MGDS RCS and decided to move to London to do the MSc Cons at the Eastman. There was no looking back and by 1996 he had gained the MRD and by 2001 the FDS from Edinburgh. By that time he was running an MSc in Gerodontology at QMUL which led to him being the Course Director of the internationally recognised D.Clin Dent in Prosthodontics which has a memorandum of agreement with RCS Edinburgh where he is an examiner for the M.Pros. He was made Senior Lecturer in 2008, Clinical Director in 2011 and Professor in 2017. As Clinical Director he led the move to the first new traditional Dental School in 40 years, interestingly the last was Newcastle when he was an undergraduate. His interests are around tooth wear and is the first dentist to be invited to sit on the NICE guidelines for eating disorders. As an active member of the British Society of Prosthodontics he was President of that society in 2018/2019. He will retire from clinical practice in July 2020 and will become Dean of the Faculty of Dental Surgery, Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh from October 2020.
