Meet the speaker

Mick Allen 250X250 Mick Allen Consultant in Sedation and Special Care Dentistry, University Dental Hospital and School, Cardiff

Mick is a Consultant in Sedation and Special Care Dentistry at The University Dental Hospital and School, Cardiff. He works for both the NHS and Cardiff University and teaches on his main subjects of sedation and special care dentistry. He is a keen advocate of value-based healthcare and applying the principles of Prudent Healthcare to dental care settings.

In a portfolio career within the NHS, he has been a GDP practice owner, Postgraduate Tutor, Clinical Director, Undergraduate and Postgraduate lecturer, advisor to Cardiff and Vale Health Board and is Chair of the Strategic Advisory Forum for Sedation in Wales supporting the Chief Dental Officer on sedation-related matters. He is currently Secretary of the Dental Sedation Teachers Group. On moving from GDP owner to NHS salaried positions he transformed his practice into the UK's first employee-owned NHS GDS practice.
