What to expect
Amitha Ranauta will deliver a lecture which aims to understand the subjective and personal nature of professionalism in dentistry, recognise the impact of situational contexts on professional behaviour within the dentistry, and to encourage the cultivation of professional judgment and continuous learning among dental professionals.

- Examine how individual factors such as past experience, age, and cultural background influence patients' perceptions of professionalism
- Evaluate the role of context-specific factors, including practice environment and patient needs, in shaping professional conduct
- Promote the practice of learning professionalism through observation, peer discussions, and reflection, complementing formal standards and guidance.

Meet the speaker
Amitha is the Deputy Dean for Dentistry at Queen Mary University of London. She leads on the teaching and assessment of professionalism and communication skills and has been involved nationally in the development of this field through her work with Dental Schools Council and Health Education England.
Amitha is the recent past Chair of the national Dental Teachers of Professionalism group and has worked in collaboration with the General Dental Council, the Association of Dental Education of Europe and the International Association of Dental Research. Her work in Professional ethics teaching and research has led to collaboration with Netherlands, India and South Korea. Amitha works as a panellist and chairs Fitness to practise Committees at the regulator the General Dental Council.
