What to expect
Wing Commander Mel Clarkson will deliver a lecture which will provide awareness of the GDP and DCP’s role in contributing to a successful forensic dental identification from their own day-to-day practise, with specific reference to dental charting. Mel will also discuss the different primary methods of identification and the pros and cons of each, as well as the general dental team’s role in contributing to successful forensic odontology applications.

Meet the speaker
Mel qualified as a dentist in June 2003 after studying at St Bartholomew’s and the Royal London School of Medicine and Dentistry. On graduation Mel followed her interest of joining the Royal Air Force as a direct entrant Dental Officer in August 2003 and has worked ever since as a serving General Dental Practitioner in the RAF. She is currently serving as Staff Officer Grade 1 in Clinical Dental Delivery within the Defence Primary Healthcare Dental Pillar in Defence Medical Services Headquarters.
Following graduation from RAFC Cranwell, Clarkson completed her Foundation Dental Training at RAF Wittering and remained here for three years, inclusive of detachments to RAF Akrotiri, Lyneham, Coningsby, Cranwell, ATR Bassingbourn, RAF Aldergrove and Ascension Island. In 2006 she was posted to RAF Marham and while she was here she deployed on Op Telic 10 in Iraq for 4 months. Additional deployments include the Falkland Islands in 2013.
