Len is Head of BDA Indemnity, a general dental practitioner, foundation trainer and practice owner. He has 21 years’ experience as a dento-legal advisor supporting dentists with complaints, clinical and regulatory issues, and clinical negligence claims. He is lead lecturer at the University of Bedfordshire teaching on the MA in Dental Law and Ethics.

He has authored and co-authored two books: “Understanding NHS dentistry” and “Dental Law and Ethics” and has contributed legal and ethical content to a number of text books, journals and websites. He regularly shares his wisdom on NHS regulations and contract reform and has both dental and legal qualifications. 

Joe spent 28 years in general practice and for eight of those was the dental practice advisor for Berkshire. He tutored at the Eastman Dental Hospital’s School of Hygiene and Therapy for 17 years and spent a decade as a dento-legal advisor with one of the large mutual defence organisations. 

Joe has a particular interest in the legal aspects of prescribing within the dental setting and was recently made an honorary member of the BADT.

Carol has over 40 years nursing experience, including time spent as a Midwife and Health Visitor.

For the last 11 years she has worked specifically in the field of safeguarding, predominantly child safeguarding but more recently relating to both adults and children. Despite taking early retirement in 2015, Carol has continued to work in the NHS clinically in this specialism alongside private work authoring and delivering safeguarding courses, and writing policies. She has extensive experience delivering safeguarding training to dental staff, both for the BDA and in individual practices.

In a voluntary capacity Carol is part of a national group for Scouting responsible for reviewing safeguarding cases and identifying learning themes.

Darryl Coombes is a Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon. He qualified as a dental surgeon from King’s College London in 1993 then qualified as a medical doctor from King’s College London in 2000. He then went on to complete his surgical training and higher surgical training in oral and maxillofacial surgery before eventually becoming appointed as a Consultant for the Queen Victoria Hospital in 2008. In 2018 he limited his practice to the private sector. His interests at the moment are oral surgery, oral pathology, oral medicine and aesthetic facial plastic surgery.
