IN-PERSON EVENT, hosted by the Norfolk and Norwich Section 

What to expect

The lecture will review potential surgical complications and their management both in primary and secondary care. It will also discuss different presentations of TMJ dysfunction and its management.

The Section Annual General Meeting will also be taking place during the event. All BDA members are encouraged to attend.

Learning objectives

  • Identify potential risks to surgical procedures including adverse reactions/incidents to local anaesthetic, oral antral communications, fractured tuberosity, root fractures, dry sockets and roots displaced into sinus and understand the practitioner's role in the management of these complications.
  • Appreciate the role of secondary care in the management of these complications and understand when it is appropriate to refer.
  • Describe the significance of TMJ dysfunction as a cause of facial pain.
  • Review current guidance on the management of TMJ dysfunction.

Meet the speaker

David Mcanerney Resized David McAnerney Oral and Maxillofacial Consultant, Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital

Originally from Gloucester, David primarily trained as a dentist with an intercalated BSc in Oral Biology at the Royal London. As a major trauma centre inspired him to pursue a career in OMFS. He completed his dental VT training in Essex and returned to London to complete the MBBS. Completion of training was within the East of England region leading to consultant post at NNUH. David is currently the Service lead for the oral health department at NNUH and he provides specialist care in Paediatrics, Sialendoscopy and Deformity. With a PGCE in education he is heavily involved with departmental teaching.
