Management of oral surgery complications in primary care

Kate graduated from Sheffield university in 1993 and teaches all aspects of undergraduate and postgraduate Oral Surgery and oral diseases. Kate completed her Academic Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (AACOMS) in the Yorkshire region in 2013 and has expertise in all aspects of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. She has a special interest in managing anxious patients and in the management of medical emergencies in dental practice.. Kate is a member of the Teaching sub-committee of ABAOMS and is President of the Association of Academic Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and has been co-author of a number of leading publications in undergraduate oral surgery education. She is reviewer for the Journal of Oral Surgery and has published extensively on medical emergency management and is an examiner for Membership in Oral Surgery, ISFE Oral Surgery and MOMS (membership in oral and maxillofacial surgery).

Peter is a consultant oral and maxillofacial surgeon, having qualified with a BDS from the Royal Dental Hospital in London in 1979 and with an MBBS from University College Hospital, London in 1988. He completed his senior registrar maxillofacial training at the Royal London Hospital before commencing as a consultant at the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay (UHMBFT) in 1998. His main surgical interests are orthognathic surgery, facial trauma and oral diseases. Peter was the medical director at UHMBFT and is now the associate medical director for appraisal and revalidation. Peter co-edited The Handbook of Immediate Care and has contributed chapters in a number of textbooks about trauma.

Anna is a Specialty Doctor in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery. She qualified from Bristol University in 2005, completed SHO posts at Bristol Dental Hospital and University College London, before beginning as a Staff Grade in OMFS at the Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle. During this time, she gained invaluable oncall experience, attained the diploma in Conscious Sedation from Newcastle University and fell in love with the fells and lakes of Cumbria.

To broaden her scope of practice, in 2017 Anna came out of her full time hospital position and worked within several settings including special care, emergency dental care and general dentistry. Her working week is now an eclectic mix of oral surgery referrals and conscious sedation in several practices, an OMFS Specialty Doctor role across University of Morecambe Bay hospital sites and has recently joined the team at UCLan.
