What to expect

Kate Taylor will discuss current strategies for conscious sedation in dentistry and give an overview of ways to improve patient safety in sedation.

  • Describe current medical issues affecting patients treated with sedation
  • Discuss appropriate assessment of patients for conscious sedation in primary care
  • Be able to identify when advanced sedation is more appropriate and when to refer.

Meet the speaker

Kate Taylor 180X180 Kate Taylor Chair in Oral Surgery, Programme Lead for MClin Dent Oral Surgery, UCLan

Kate graduated from Sheffield university in 1993 and teaches all aspects of undergraduate and postgraduate Oral Surgery and oral diseases. Kate completed her Academic Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (AACOMS) in the Yorkshire region in 2013 and has expertise in all aspects of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. She has a special interest in managing anxious patients and in the management of medical emergencies in dental practice. She is Chair of the Dental Sedation Teachers’ Group (DSTG) and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Kate is a member of the Teaching sub-committee of ABAOMS and is President of the Association of Academic Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and has been co-author of a number of leading publications in undergraduate oral surgery education. She is reviewer for the Journal of Oral Surgery and has published extensively on medical emergency management. Kate was awarded the Lady Estelle Wolfson Fellowship (RCS England) and performs a number of College roles. She is an examiner for Membership in Oral Surgery, ISFE Oral Surgery and MOMS (membership in oral and maxillofacial surgery)
