What to expect

Every GDP should have a working knowledge of implant crowns whether they wish to restore an implant or not. This lecture aims at providing an understanding of the core components of a dental implant, the principle of osseointegration, and the necessary steps involved in planning, restoring, and maintaining a single dental implant. This is part 1 of a 2 part course. Part 2 will be taking place on Wednesday 10 September 2025.

Learning objectives

  • Identify the core components of a standard dental implant and understand the basic principle of how it integrates with bone (osseointegration).⁠
  • Recognise the essential information needed from the implant placement surgeon to plan and execute a simple implant restoration.
  • Understand the fundamental steps involved in restoring a single, standard dental implant, from initial assessment to final restoration delivery.
  • Understand the importance of maintenance protocols for dental implants and  when to refer for further intervention.

Meet the speaker

Rajesh Varma Dental Surgeon with special interest in Implant Dentistry

Rajesh qualified from Guy's Hospital, London in 1999 and has dedicated his career to advancing his expertise in restorative and implant dentistry. Holding a Diploma in Dental Implantology from the Eastman Dental Institute and currently pursuing an MSc in Restorative Dentistry at Birmingham University, he combines academic rigor with extensive practical experience. With over a decade of hands-on experience working with diverse implant systems, including a recent collaboration with Osstem Implants, Rajesh is at the forefront of dental innovation. He is actively integrating digital workflows into orthodontic and restorative treatments, reflecting his commitment to providing patients with the most advanced and effective care.

The golf club is centrally located with easy access from the M1 and A1, Bedford, Milton Keynes, Northampton, Luton and Wellingborough.

Directions from Bedford

Take the A428 to Northampton and at Bromham (3 miles from central Bedford) turn left onto the A422 to Milton Keynes. After 1 mile turn left onto Spring Lane (signposted Kempston Church End) and immediately left again into the golf club entrance. Once through the entrance drive up the hill and the car park is on your right.

Directions from Milton Keynes

At Junction 14 of the M1, take the A509 North to Olney/Wellingborough. After 3 miles turn right onto the A422 to Bedford. Drive for a further 6 miles on the A422 and turn right into Spring Lane (signposted Kempston Church End). Turn immediately left into the golf club entrance. Once through the entrance drive up the hill and the car park is on your right.
