What to expect

During the first lecture Rory Dewhurst will provide an overview of pain theory, the techniques, technology and medications used in the provision of pain free dental treatment whilst in the second lecture Andrew Bartley will help to improve clinicians knowledge and confidence in the diagnosis and management of emergency endodontic treatment.

Learning objectives

  • Discuss the theory of pain
  • Understand and be able to apply clinical techniques to prevent pain during treatment
  • Explore different dental technologies available to prevent pain during treatment
  • Examine the pharmacological management of pain
  • Understand the ideal components of access cavity design
  • Recognise the anatomy of the pulp chamber and how this affects access cavity design
  • Explore diagnosis and immediate endodontic management
  • Discuss management of the hyperaemic tooth.
