It's unprecedented to see Ministers make this announcement ahead of the Review Body on Doctors' and Dentists' Remuneration (DDRB) publishing their final report and the UK Government offering their response. Subsequently the 51st DDRB report was published on 14 July.
The Scottish Government are describing the award as "record breaking". But we are clear this is just another below-inflation pay award.
"This represents a pay cut for every NHS dentist in Scotland" said Charlotte Waite, National Director of BDA Scotland.
"An exodus is in motion. We will not stem the flow of talent from this service when ministers dress up below inflation pay awards as largesse."
