I have worked as a community dental officer (CDO) in East Lancashire for over four years, providing care for mainly paediatric patients in one of the areas of highest dental need in the country.
I am also in my second year of Speciality Training in Paediatric Dentistry at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust where I work part-time whilst retaining my CDO post.
I am an active member of the British Society of Paediatric Dentistry and currently hold the position of Secretary in the North West Branch and have a role on the national Media Team.
I became involved with the BDA earlier this year as a clinical representative on the England Community Dental Services Committee (ECDSC) and its cross-rep on the BDA's Young Dentist Committee.
I had noticed poor moral and increasing frustration within the community dental service, with colleagues feeling powerless to change their future, and I wanted to do something to change that.
I got involved with the BDA to represent like-minded community dentists with a passion for improving the quality of care for the patients in society who need us most.
I believe that through the ECDSC we can support and empower dentists, reignite the passion for delivery of community care and develop career pathways in the salaried dental services.
