Over 100 dentists from the South West gathered in Bristol in February for the annual BDA South West Conference run by the BDA South West Young Dentist Group.

This was our fifth year of successful conferences and was the best yet. We had an excellent line up of speakers covering a wide range of topics.

The day kicked off with 'Endodontic update and pearls of wisdom for long term success' with Massimo Giovarruscio, followed by an enlightening 'Update on sedation options for the GDP' with Dr David Craig. 'Photography for the GDP' with Billal Arshad gave a fantastic introduction to a subject not touched upon at dental school, and we were delighted to welcome Subir Banerji speaking on 'Occlusal implications in restorative/prosthodontic planning', which was a valuable lecture for young and more experienced colleagues alike.

The highlight of the day was the first ever UK indemnity/insurance debate, with speakers from Dental Protection, Dental Defence Union, Taylor Defence Services and Professional Dental Indemnity debating: 'Who offers what? Dental indemnity demystified'.

This proved to be as enthralling as we imagined, concluding with questions from the floor. We would like to offer a huge thank you to all of our sponsors and to the delegates for making the day such a success.

Save the date for our next conference in Exeter on 15 February 2020!
