NHS uplift and associates' pay: GDPC position updated
11 January 2019
The General Dental Practice Committee (GDPC) encourages all practices to discuss with their associates their contractual arrangements in light of the NHS uplift, and the BDA has recently produced some updated guidance on associate contracts.
George Wright, GDPC Associates Group Chair said:
"We understand that it's financially tough for many practices in the current climate. But we feel dental associates are bearing the brunt of that more than anyone. In many parts of the country, pay for associates has stagnated, and some feel stuck in their roles, unable to raise the finance necessary to open their own practice, or unable to invest in their expertise and skills, and move up in their careers.
"We are pleased GDPC has recognised our plight and we urge all practice owners to think ahead and consider the longer-term impact of not giving associates a pay rise each year. As the cost of living rises, associates pay is falling, and this is not a sustainable situation."
Improving working lives for younger dentists
We support dentists at all stages of their careers and our Young Dentists Committee and GDPC Associates Group aim to be the voice of those starting out in dentistry and those mid-career.
They work on a range of issues, including pay and conditions, education and training, career pathways, the impact of dental regulation and stress in the profession, and dental health and science issues.
