Working to improve the dental payments system in Northern Ireland
15 February 2017
The Northern Ireland Health and Social Care Board has invited the BDA to be represented on their dental payments system user group, to help advise on the issues practitioners are experiencing with the Business Services Organisation's dental payments system.
The current dental payments system was implemented over two years ago, but continues to cause problems for practices.
The BDA has been highlighting the ongoing issues, such as forms being returned, indecipherable systems messages and unpaid items and the BSO has been working to resolve matters.
The HSCB acknowledge that there are problems with the system and that this is causing frustration for dentists, and in response it has established this new user group and has organised training sessions for practitioners.
Four members of the BDA Northern Ireland Dental Practice Committee have agreed to sit as representatives on the user group. The group will also include BSO Family Practitioners Services, BSO Information Technology Services and the Dental Team in the Board. The group will aim to improve the operation of the new payments system within the BSO.
The HSCB has also organised training sessions across Northern Ireland, which will take place over the next few months.
Practitioners have been sent details and the BDA encourages practitioners and/or practice staff to attend. Topics covered will include the payments claiming process, payments reconciliation, ensuring the accurate electronic transmission of claims to the BSO and explanation of error messages.
If you are experiencing issues with the payments system, please let us know, and we will take your concerns to the HSCB via the user group.
